IJCAI-PRICAI 2020 Call for Papers: Demonstrations Track

The 29th International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence and the 17th Pacific Rim International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI-PRICAI 2020) will be held in Yokohama, Japan, from July 11th to July 17th, 2020. In addition to the main track, IJCAI-PRICAI 2020 includes a track on demonstrations of AI-related systems and implementations.

The primary goals of the Demonstrations Track are to provide a platform for exchanging inspiring ideas between theory and practice and to showcase the applicability of different AI technologies to real-world problems.

Accepted demo papers will be included in IJCAI proceedings.

In addition, two awards will be given to honor outstanding demonstrations:

  • Innovation Award for the demonstration with the most original and significant research methodologies.
  • Application Impact Award for the demonstration with the highest impact in a real-world application.

Topics

As the premier general conference on AI, IJCAI-PRICAI 2020 welcomes submissions across all areas of AI. the Demonstrations Track of IJCAI-PRICAI 2020 follows this principle, with an emphasis on implemented systems and the applicability of AI to practice. The scope includes (but is not limited to) the following subfields of AI:

  • Computer Vision
  • Constraints and Satisfiability
  • Game Playing
  • Heuristic Search
  • Human-Computer Interactive Systems
  • Machine Learning
  • Multi-agent Systems
  • Natural Language Processing
  • Knowledge Representation and Reasoning
  • Planning and Scheduling
  • Recommender Systems
  • Speech Processing
  • Uncertainty in AI

Please note that Robotics is not included since IJCAI-PRICAI 2020 will also feature a Robot Exhibition and we encourage robotics demonstrations to be submitted there.

We encourage all submissions that describe innovative, high-quality AI research addressing real-world problems. Demos are expected to show the applicability of different AI techniques with a strong emphasis on the issues that have to be addressed to bring these to practice.

In particular, we encourage submitters to the Main Track of IJCAI-PRICAI 2020 to showcase their systems in the Demonstrations Track. Doing so requires submitting your work twice (see Submission Details and Review Process). Note, however, that the main track and the demonstrations track are run separately and no explicit coordination is offered, which suggests that while one submission might be accepted in one track, it might be rejected (or not) in the other.

In addition to academia, industrial researchers and practitioners are encouraged to submit their works to the Demonstrations track.

Important Dates (Demonstrations Track)

Submission site opens: February 3, 2020

Abstract registration deadline: February 24 (11:59pm UTC-12)

Paper submission deadline: February 28 (11:59pm UTC-12)

Notification of acceptance/rejection: April 5

Camera-ready copy due: April 19

Modes of demo presentation

IJCAI-PRICAI 2020 will offer two modes of presenting demos:

  • The traditional demo mode, where the demonstration is presented in a booth during the demonstrations session.
  • A demonstration talk mode, where Demo submitters have ten minutes to present their demos in a “frontal” slide / video presentation.

Note that the two options are not exclusive. However, the authors must specify at the time of submission whether they choose traditional demo, demonstration talk, or both.

Submission Details and Review Process

Paper templates: http://www.ijcai.org/authors_kit
Submission site: https://cmt3.research.microsoft.com/IJCAIDemos2020

The submitted document must be a single PDF. The paper should describe the application domain, the problem scenario, the technology used, the AI techniques involved, the original contribution and innovations of the system, live and interactive aspects, etc. Papers must be prepared in PDF format using the IJCAI style. Submissions are NOT anonymous. The page limit is 3 pages in total: 2 pages for the main text (including all figures but excluding references), and one additional page for references. Over-length papers will be rejected without review.

Furthermore, the authors must at the time of submission provide the following information based on their choice of mode of demonstration.

  • Traditional demo mode: For a presentation in the traditional demo mode, the authors should provide a list of requirements/description of the demo setting, for example, floor space, table, poster, monitor, potential noise/sound issues etc. This list should be attached to the paper on a separate page not counted towards the 3-page limit. This page will not be part of the final published paper.
  • Demonstration talk: For a demonstration talk, the authors should provide in their submission a URL linking to a demonstration video (e.g., YouTube) no more than 10 minutes in length showing what will be projected on screen. Otherwise, the authors have the choice of submitting a URL linking to a demonstration video no more than 10 minutes in length (e.g., YouTube) or a Powerpoint presentation showing and explaining what happens. Other formats are also possible if they can more clearly illustrate the demo. The essential objective of the demo talk is to give a precise idea of what the demo will look like.

Submitted papers must be formatted according to the IJCAI-PRICAI 2020 main track guidelines and submitted electronically through the submission link mentioned above. At least one author of each accepted paper is required to attend the conference to present the work. Authors will be required to agree to this requirement at the time of submission. Submissions that do not meet the length or formatting requirements will not be considered for review (see Submission Details). No email or fax submissions will be accepted. Notification of receipt of an electronically submitted paper will be emailed automatically to the designated contact author soon after receipt. If there are problems with the electronic submission, the Demonstrations Track Co-Chairs will contact the designated author by email.

Papers will be peer-reviewed by program committee members. Selection criteria include originality, innovation, applicability and potential benefits of the resulting system. Note that there will be no rebuttal phase.

Keywords

When submitting their paper, authors will be required to choose content area keywords. General categories should only be used if specific categories do not apply or do not accurately reflect the main contributions. The full list of keywords will be available on the submission site.

Logstics

The presenters of accepted demonstrations are required to bring all necessary equipment and material for the successful operation of their exhibit. IJCAI will provide shipping instructions, if needed, for the delivery of material to the conference site. Special electrical connections must be arranged through the Demonstrations Track Co-Chairs no later than 45 days prior to the start of the conference. Electrical and Internet service will be made available to confirmed exhibitors.

Tabletops will be provided for every demo in traditional mode. If available and if space permits, additional tables or other space requirements may possibly be provided.

Confidentiality Policy

All submissions will be treated in strict confidence until the publication date.

Conflict of Interest Policy

All people involved in the IJCAI-PRICAI 2020 review process adhere to the IJCAI conflict of interest policy. Details can be found at http://ijcai.org/

Submission Restrictions

The main track of IJCAI-PRICAI 2020 is enforcing a submission limit of no more than six submissions per individual author. However, papers submitted to the demonstration track do not count for this number of submissions. The list of authors provided at submission time is final. Authors may not be added to, or removed from, papers following submission. (However, author ordering may still be changed.) Also, by submitting a paper to IJCAI-PRICAI 2020, authors must acknowledge that they will do their best to contribute in some way to the review process, if asked to.
